5 signs it’s time to change your Vape Coils

Think there’s something wrong with your e-cigarette coils?

It’s certainly possible. They are the heating elements that transform your delicious e-liquid into a vapour and, although you might take good care of your e-cigarette and regularly clean the separate parts, they don’t last forever and will need replacing at some point.

Here we list five tell-tale signs that you need to replace your vape coils:

  1. Burnt taste

This is probably one of the most obvious signs that your coils need replacing.

When you vape, it’s supposed to taste delightful and provide you with the desired hit of nicotine, after all, it is your flavour of choice! You’re not meant to experience a horrible ‘burnt’ taste in the back of your throat.

If your vape tastes like this – it’s likely you’ve burned the wick and coil materials to a point where they cannot be salvaged. We recommend replacement coils to get your e-cigarette back up and running in no time.

  1. Strange taste

A burnt taste is one thing – but when your vape doesn’t hit the spot like it usually does, this too can signal it’s time to replace your e-cig coils.

You may find that your e-liquid suddenly loses its flavour or there is a significant change in the colour of the e-juice itself. Though you could switch to a new e-liquid flavour – something that is sure to tantalise your taste buds – the chances are that the coil and wick are too saturated and they simply cannot deliver the right flavour. So, before you start blaming your e-juice, consider replacing the coil first.

  1. Gurgling E-cigarette

Some e-cigarettes are known to make a gurgling sound when you use them – but it could also indicate that there is a serious issue with your e-cig (i.e. tank flooding or coils needs replacing).

In most cases, the gurgling noise occurs a short time after the coil has been changed. When this happens, try unscrewing and reattaching the coil – making sure that all the holes are correctly aligned. If your e-cig continues to make a noise, you should consider coil replacement. And, if this doesn’t work, we recommend getting in touch with our team of experts, or even the manufacturer.

  1. E-cigarette leaks

There are several reasons why an e-cigarette fails. For instance:

  • Overflow of tank
  • Worn-out rings
  • Burnt-out coil

We suggest taking your e-cig apart, giving it a good clean and checking the battery is ok. As well as this, take the coil out and inspect it. If it looks damaged or burnt-out, try replacement coils before you look at other possible options for leakages.

  1. Overuse

This comes down to your personal usage, and how much time you spend vaping every day. It’s not necessarily about when you last changed the coil.

Vape coils degrade with use, meaning that if you’re a regular vaper, you’ll probably have to change the coil every few days (or weekly). Whereas, if you’re an occasional vaper, the chances are you’ll only have to change coils once a month.

Whatever your vaping habits, it’s good practice to replace coils at least every couple of weeks, or keep a note of when you last replaced them, which e cig liquid you use i.e. high Vegetable Glycerin (VG) or Propylene Glycol (PG), and when it starts to lose its taste. This way you’ll know when the coil is burnt-out and can avoid it happening again.
