Stepping into the world of sub-ohm vaping? Here’s everything we think you should know.
Like many other terms in the vaping realm, you may well have heard of sub-ohm before.
But what exactly is it?
If you’re wanting to step up into new territory from your old mouth-to-lung vape kit, then sub-ohm vaping, in our opinion, is definitely the way to go.
It might all seem a bit daunting, especially if you have no idea where to start, which is why in this post, the experts at Cloudstix take a deep dive into the world of sub-ohm vaping.
What is sub-ohm vaping?
Back in the early days of vaping, options were pretty limited.
There were a couple of poor-quality cig-a-likes to choose from, which delivered minimal flavour, low hits of nicotine, and next to no vapour.
Since then, vaping and e-cigarettes have advanced in leaps and bounds – with plenty of different options, like sub-ohm vaping, now available.
Sub-ohm is simply a style of vaping, characterised by large vapour clouds and a huge amount of flavour from your juice.
To achieve this, you’ll need a special device that delivers a higher wattage, and a coil with a resistance of below 1.0ohm.
The physical way that you vape is also different with sub-ohm vaping, requiring a different style of inhalation.
Vapers using this style use a technique called DL (Direct Lung), which means breathing the vapour straight into your lungs.
Why should I do it?
Vapers choose sub-ohm vaping for many reasons, but the main benefits it offers include:
- Bigger vapour clouds
Sub-ohm vaping will generate much bigger, thicker, and denser clouds of vapour than other styles of vaping – making it the go-to choice if you’re a cloud chaser with a soft spot for high VG vape juices.
- More intense e-liquid flavour
High-resistance coils and low-power devices are essentially there to provide a similar sensation to smoking, meaning the main focus is the throat hit they provide.
On the other hand, one of the main attractions of sub-ohm vaping is the intense flavour you can pull from your favourite e-liquids.
The enhanced flavours happen because each draw you take vaporises more liquid, which results in a more concentrated and therefore stronger flavour.
- Smoother vape
When sub-ohm vaping, you’ll use a lower nicotine strength, high-VG liquid, so that the hit is smooth and not too intense, and you can produce bigger and thicker vapour clouds.
Is it safe?
When done correctly, sub-ohm vaping is perfectly safe. However, because you’ll be using a higher-powered device with lower-resistance coils, there are a few things you should be wary of.
Lots of vapers like to sub-ohm with a mechanical mod, which is essentially a tube that holds a battery and delivers power to your coil with no internal regulation.
If you don’t know much about ohms-law or battery safety, this is the riskiest way to use this technique, so it’s important to do your research.
The safest way to sub-ohm vape is to use a device with safety features already built in.
